TORRINGTON: CHH Adds New Joint Replacement Physician and Service to its Multi-Specialty Group

CHH Adds New Joint Replacement Physician and Service to its Multi-Specialty Group

(Torrington, CT)  -  The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital (CHH) is introducing a new Joint Replacement and Orthopedics practice as part of its Multi-Specialty Group of outpatient services and is pleased to welcome David M. Freccero, M.D., board-certified orthopedic surgeon who will be heading up the new office and program.

Dr. Freccero will offer orthopedic surgery services, specializing in joint replacement surgery including knees and hips. He also will provide orthopedic sports medicine and general orthopedic services at his practice, CHH Joint Replacement & Orthopedics, 538 Litchfield Street, Suite 203, Torrington. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 860-496-6265.

Dr. Freccero earned his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit, Michigan. He completed his internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii. He also completed the prestigious Otto E. Aufranc Adult Reconstruction Surgery Fellowship at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is board certified by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and holds a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopedic Sports Medicine.

Following his residency, Dr. Freccero was stationed in Seoul, South Korea at the 121st Combat Support Hospital/U.S. Army MEDDAC-Korea. As a Major in the U.S. Army, he served as Chief of the orthopedic surgery service there. While stationed in Korea, he provided a full-range of orthopedic surgery services to over 40,000 U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force personnel and their families. He performed surgery on soldiers in the 2nd Infantry Division and Special Forces—active, athletic people with a wide range of sports injuries. Dr. Freccero holds two U.S. Army Commendation Medals and an Army Achievement Medal as well as numerous awards in research competitions.

During his fellowship in adult reconstruction surgery at New England Baptist Hospital in Boston, he gained tremendous experience in limited-incision and muscle-sparing surgery for hip and knee replacements. He also performed extensive research in postoperative pain management protocols to optimize postoperative patient mobility and overall recovery.

In its continuing efforts to provide the best possible care to patients and improve overall efficiencies, Charlotte Hungerford Hospital has formed the Charlotte Hungerford Multi-Specialty Group, a local network of physicians, surgeons and specialists. Currently consisting of two dozen physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners, the multi-specialty group brings together cardiology, family medicine, infectious disease, neurology, urgent care, surgery and urology practices under a single umbrella.

“For patients, this means coordinated care among our specialty healthcare providers,” said Mark Prete, M.D., Vice President of Medical Affairs for Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. “Through the Charlotte Hungerford Multi-Specialty Group, patients are connected through the hospital’s wider healthcare system, where its award-winning services, access to advanced technologies and a full complement of specialists are available to meet the medical needs of patients.”

The practices are in the process of implementing electronic medical records, which will result in improved quality of care, patient safety and efficiencies. Further improvements will result from a health information exchange, which will facilitate access to clinical information at the hospital and enable sharing of pertinent patient health records through a secure electronic system.

The Charlotte Hungerford Hospital is a 109-bed, general acute care hospital located in Torrington, Connecticut, that serves as a regional health care resource for 100,000 residents of Litchfield County and Northwest Connecticut.
